Seven Miles for Three Years

You know the movie “A River Runs Through It”?  We were totally there last Wednesday.  As in, we rented a raft and floated seven miles through its set (minus Brad Pitt – who needs him?)

To celebrate our third anniversary, we headed an hour south to the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area in Utah.  The Green River flows through the area, and rafting/boating outfitters put in at the base of the Flaming Gorge dam.  You then float seven miles down the river through the most beautiful scenery you’ve ever seen.

This part of the river is also known for championship trout fishing, and we must have seen over a hundred rainbow and speckled trout swimming beneath our raft throughout the afternoon.  We passed several fly fisherman, and Charlie was aching for a fishing pole!

It was a beautifully sunny day, and we started our float just before lunch.  Charlie was an awesome navigator, doing most of the paddling, though the river moves so gently that we spent most of the time just cruising.  I think he was a river guide in another life however, because he was the master at doing spin moves off the various rocks and shooting us through the few rapids we encountered!

I can’t think of a better way to have celebrated our three year anniversary.  I loved looking around at the lush trees, rocky banks and trout swimming below, then looking up to see my sweet, handsome husband smiling at me.  There were long stretches in which we were the only raft in sight, and there’s no one I’d rather be gently floating down a river in the warm sunshine with than him.

So if you ever call and can’t get a hold of us, check the river.  We’ll be the ones stretched out in the raft, faces up to the sun and grinning ear to ear.
